Spread Some Love and Make Someone’s Day

Normally this time of year finds me in a major funk. I become a hermit and prefer to just stay inside and keep to myself. The funny thing is that this was the first year that I recognized that this is an occurring theme and it starts at some point in January.

The rush of preparing for back-to-back holidays and setting up showrooms is over, the days are short and, for many, the weather is dreary and cold.

I am fortunate that my funk is pretty mild and short lived. For others, it can be pretty rough. Judging by many posts on Facebook and Instagram there are a lot of people suffering with seasonal depression and this year, I decided I wanted to try and do something about that.

A simple act of kindness can absolutely turn around someone’s day, really. A smile, a compliment, an offer to help someone carry a heavy package, can make someone feel good, and as a bonus, it will make you feel good too.

My plan for the week is to get out and spread as much kindness as possible. In addition to handing out smiles, compliments and buying coffee for strangers I will be calling people who I think might need a little pick me up. I also plan on making some Valentine’s and putting them on people’s car windows and maybe handing them to passer-sby. Some of these activities will be putting myself way outside of my comfort zone but that’s ok. I firmly believe that we do our best work when we are out there in discomfort city.

I hope that you will join me in making someone’s day. Reach out to a friend, pay it forward or hand out some Valentine’s at a local senior center. Even if you pull someone out of his or her funk for just a few minutes, it will be well worth it.

Oh and let me know in the comments how it goes, I would love to hear what you did!

Thanks for stopping by xop
