A Holiday Gift Guide - Books and Other Useful Things

Because I love giving books and other useful things as gifts, I thought I would put together a list of some of my favorites for this year. Fortunately, I am lucky to know the artists behind these books and journals, which made giving these as gifts, all the more special.

"ART OF WORK" by Brian Foster Forward by Elizabeth Gilbert

This beautiful book explores the process and passion that goes into designing and creating the furniture that Brian builds for Groundwork in Philadelphia.
Each piece of furniture is a unique piece of art with a story to tell. To be walked through Brian's vision is a magical experience. Actually knowing Brian and his partner, Ernie is a pretty magical experience. The photography and photo styling are stunning and the writing gives a wonderful insight to the creative thinking process.

"HAPPY HOUSEPLANTS" by Angela Staehling for Chronicle Books

I tend to buy and give books based on the illustrations and this one is no exception. I have always been an admirer of Angela's work and when she told me she was writing and illustrating a book, I couldn't wait to see it. Over the summer I got a sneak peek and I became an even bigger fan of hers. Just looking through these illustrations brightens a winter day and puts a smile on my face. I am smiling right now just looking at the cover on my screen-really! You (or your gift recipient) will love this book even if you have no intention of adding houseplants to your home.
Available at Amazon

"SPACE CADET" Poems by Matty Cardarople

To be perfectly honest, I haven't read this yet. That said, Matty is one of the most amazing, inspiring, creative and positive people I know. I love everything he does. He is a hilarious inspiration to pretty much everyone he comes in contact with.
In Matty's words
I hope this book motivates you to create your own art, gives you encouragement, and brings you some joy. You can also spread the lessons you have learned about the universe from this book to others. I'm happy you're here on planet Earth."
He's the best and you can find his book in his etsy shop

"The NEXT! Planner" from Ronnie Walters

Know someone with a creative mind? This is the planner for them.
There are pages for "to do" lists, reminder pages to remember who to reach out to, progress tracking pages, sketch pages and even a spot to put all those little scraps of paper with our next million dollar idea that we all have. Don't you hate when you lose those?

These are available through Amazon

"ASSORTED JOURNALS" by Nancy Archer
Nancy is another one of my art crushes, I love her style and color palettes. She has a beautiful collection of journals, note cards available on her website

"New Adventures Spiral Journal"-Paula Joerling (that's me!)

Well I couldn't leave myself out now, could I? You can find this journal at Lang and while you're there, you can check out my calendars for 2018. More about that in the next post.

Have a wonderful holiday and thank you so much for stopping by!
