Sending a thank you note after receiving a gift is something that seems to be a lost art these days. While I am sure I have missed a few people here and there, I really enjoy making and sending a note after I receive a gift or when someone has gone out of their way to do something nice for me.
Since it is that time of year once again, please indulge me and allow me to get up on my high horse and offer a few tips for writing thank you notes. You will be rewarded with a free Thank You card download that you can print and use as many times as you like.
First, I would like to say that if you have received a gift through the mail, it's nice to let the sender know that it arrived. I think we have all wondered if the gift we sent made it safely to it's final destination. A quick text or email works just fine for this. "Just wanted to let you know the gift arrived and I (we) look forward to opening it" works nicely.
Now back to the thank you note.......
A nice handwritten note is so much nicer than an impersonal email. Don't be intimated, it doesn't have to be a long drawn out thing and I guarantee it will be appreciated. If someone took the time to select a gift and plop down their hard earned money for you, it's nice to let them know you appreciated it.
And I don't want to hear that you don't have the time. If you find yourself sitting in front of the television or cruising Facebook, you have the time to write a note.
Here are some samples to make things easier.
Dear Aunt Penelope,
Thank you so much for the lovely scarf. It is much appreciated and I will think of you every time I wear it.
Have a wonderful New Year!
and if you want to be less specific.....
Thank you for the lovely gift. It was very generous and thoughtful of you to think of me.
It's just perfect!
I look forward to seeing you soon. Happy New Year!
See, not that difficult and there are plenty of thank you note samples online-just google "thank you note samples".
Ok, I'm through, thanks for bearing with me.
Now, for the free thank you note.
