MIXED MEDIA ASSEMBLAGE
WORKING INSIDE THE BOX

Sunday's focus is working outside the box, inside
the box! Making mixed media assemblages with found
objects and altered images inside the box format. This
class is great as a stand alone experience or a perfect
way to incorporate work from the previous workshop.

Join us for a day of combining collage and altered
objects in assemblage. Explore ways to combine
collages with found objects and alternative surfaces
in the box format. We will give demonstrations of how
to begin with collaging inside a box, with tips on
gluing and painting. Next, we will discuss the use
of visual elements and objects in design and
storytelling. Finally, we will help you unify your finished
piece and discuss presentation.

What we will supply: glues, paints, brushes, scissors,
various found papers, miscellaneous found objects,
materials for surface making and examples of finished
work. I will have available for purchase several wooden
boxes in 10x10 inches and 11x14 inches, as well as
plexiglass for a final framed look.

What you need to bring: PLEASE BRING A FOUND BOX OR
TWO TO WORK IN. You can use a cigar box, wooden drawer,
doll case, you name it! The best size is between 5 x 7 up
to 11 x 14 inches. Also, pack your special stash of great
collage stuff such as photocopies of old or new
photographs ( I like to copy things on heavier paper),
journal or book pages, maps, kids drawings, scraps
of interesting fabrics, old letters, rubber stamps and
stuff you have saved just for collage! Found objects
as in pieces of wood, small glass jars, branches, doll
parts, scrabble and anagram letters, cool old metal,
jewelry pieces, buttons, string, tin cans, things
from nature...really anything you might want to
incorporate in an assemblage.
More is better and anything goes.

Please bring your basic collage toolkit: scissors, paint
brushes, a small bottle of Liquitex Gloss Medium and a
few of your favoite tubes of acrylic paint. Please bring
your sense of humor and adventure, and wear something
you can get messy in!

What to expect: A fantastic day filled with tons and tons
of laughter, discovery and creativity! We have found this
class offers great ways to add dimension to your collages
and build on new ways to work with assemblage, with an
eye towards final presentaton. We will finish the day with
a positive feedback session and sharing of our new works
of art.

Super Secret Art Club

It's been a pretty action packed summer for the four of us. Jeanne has had several Art Fairs, Chad had to go to Germany for a copyright infringement trial (a company was using his work illegally), Tom is getting ready for his L.A. show at Obsolete Gallery and I've just been producing art like crazy.
We were finally able to meet and swap projects. I passed mine onto Jeanne and I ended up with hers.
This is what I received.....

and this is what I did with it.

The pantaloons were printed on a canvas. I cut them up, painted them and covered them with tissue paper. They are mounted on wood so that they are flush with the box. The little red shoes are also mounted and are at two different levels.

This project has been passed on and I will work on project number 3 today.

Oh, and in case you were wondering.....we decided to keep the name Super Secret Art Club since we couldn't stop calling it that.

More to come!
